Incursion and Bombardment by Israeli Forces in Abdeen Village Sparks Emergency Response from Syrian Civil Defence

Amid escalating tensions between Israel and Syria, the Syrian Civil Defence has mobilised its emergency teams to respond to a reported incursion by Israeli forces in the village of Abdeen, located in Daraa province. According to reports from the Civil Defence, Israeli forces targeted the village with artillery shells and machine-gun fire from a helicopter, leaving residents in a state of panic and prompting a temporary displacement to neighbouring villages.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that Israeli troops entered the village and set up temporary positions on the nearby Al-Maghar hill, prior to conducting excavations in the area. The residents, including children, attempted to obstruct the incursion by hurling stones, but reportedly faced fire from Israeli troops who fired live rounds into the air. Subsequently, the Israeli forces retreated, leaving behind a trail of destruction and fear.

Ahmed al-Hajer, Operations commander of the Civil Defence, asserted that the subsequent bombardment triggered widespread panic among the residents, prompting a temporary displacement to nearby villages. Fortunately, the Civil Defence reports that no casualties or material damage were sustained during the incident. However, teams from the Civil Defence were swiftly deployed to evacuate and assist displaced families, as Israeli drones continued to operate in the airspace above the affected area.

The escalation of tensions in the region has heightened concerns regarding the potential risks to civilians, particularly in areas such as Abdeen, which have seen increased military activity in recent months. As the situation continues to unfold, the Syrian Civil Defence remains committed to providing aid to those affected by the conflict, despite operating under challenging conditions.

The reported involvement of Israel in the recent incident remains a contentious issue, with regional powers and stakeholders holding differing views on the legitimacy and consequences of such actions. As diplomatic efforts continue to address the complex web of issues plaguing the region, the Syrian Civil Defence has reaffirmed its role as a primary provider of emergency services to those affected by the ongoing conflict.
