In a disturbing trend observed on various social media platforms, a post has been circulating urging Indian citizens to participate in an alleged online money-making opportunity. The post, which claims to be associated with ‘Earn with Victoria Charles,’ has caused significant concern and confusion among recipients.
According to the post, the author claimed to have initially possessed only ₹5,000 in their UPI wallet, which they allegedly transferred to ‘Mrs Victoria Charles.’ Unexpectedly, the author now boasts having ₹37,800 in their UPI wallet, attributing the increase to the involvement of Victoria Charles.
Experts warn this could be a classic case of a ponzi scheme, a type of investment scam in which returns are paid to existing investors from funds contributed by new investors rather than from profit earned. Such schemes often exhibit a high level of urgency, asking individuals to invest money before the opportunity expires.
“This appears to be a highly suspicious operation,” said a financial security expert requesting anonymity. “We see no transparency or clear indication of the legitimacy of the business model in question. In fact, there are several red flags that point towards this being a ponzi scheme.”
The post, which includes a social media handle ‘Earn with Victoria Charles,’ instructs recipients to engage with Victoria’s profile, potentially exposing users to further scams or even phishing attempts. Users are advised to exercise extreme caution when encountering such schemes.
“Please exercise extreme caution and do not engage with the alleged scheme,” urged Shri Kumar Saha, Director, National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). “Our NPCI team at UPI wallet will never request you to make any transaction through any external link or account.”
It is essential for users to be knowledgeable about online scams and schemes. Some common warning signs include pressure to invest immediately, overly enticing returns, and a lack of transparency about the business or investment.
To avoid falling victim to such suspicious scams, it is crucial for the public, especially in India, to be vigilant and take necessary precautions when engaging in online financial transactions.
As of now, the authorities have not yet made any official announcements regarding the alleged scam promoted through the social media post in question. Meanwhile, users are advised to exercise extreme caution when engaging with such schemes and seek guidance from reputable financial security sources before making any investment decisions.
