In a press conference held in Tehran, the First Vice President of Iran, Mohammad Reza Aref, emphasized the country’s willingness to engage in diplomatic efforts to resolve the escalating tensions with the United Arab Emirates (UAE). However, he also warned that Iran would not hesitate to take decisive action if the country were to be attacked.
The recent tensions between Iran and the UAE have been centered on a longstanding dispute over maritime boundaries and territorial claims in the Persian Gulf. Tehran has accused the UAE of encroaching on its territorial waters, a claim denied by Abu Dhabi.
Speaking to reporters, Aref stated, “We are not seeking war, but we will respond firmly if it is imposed on us. Our military is prepared to defend our country, and we will not hesitate to take action if necessary.” The Iranian official also called on the international community to intervene in the dispute and encourage the UAE to engage in meaningful negotiations to resolve the crisis.
The tensions between Iran and the UAE have been escalating in recent months, with both countries mobilizing their naval forces in the Persian Gulf. Iran has also imposed economic sanctions on the UAE, including restrictions on trade and travel between the two countries.
In response to Aref’s comments, the UAE has accused Iran of being responsible for the escalating tensions, citing Tehran’s military build-up in the region. Abu Dhabi has also reiterated its stance that the dispute is centered on the demarcation of maritime boundaries and territorial claims, rather than an Iranian attack on the UAE.
International reaction to the escalation of the dispute has been muted, with several countries calling for restraint and diplomacy. The United States, which maintains a military presence in the region, has stated that it will continue to support the security and stability of the Persian Gulf region. Meanwhile, the European Union has called on both countries to engage in negotiations to resolve the crisis peacefully.
The situation in the Persian Gulf remains volatile, with analysts warning that further escalation could have far-reaching consequences for regional and global security. As the situation continues to unfold, one thing remains clear: the region is bracing for a potentially volatile outcome, as Iran and the UAE navigate a delicate diplomatic dance that could tip the balance of power in the region.
With the region teetering on the brink of conflict, international leaders are keeping a close eye on developments as tensions continue to escalate between Iran and the UAE. As Aref’s remarks indicate, the Iranian government is prepared to defend its territorial integrity, but it remains to be seen whether diplomacy will prevail or military action will become the preferred option.
