Iran Condemns International Criticisms of Its Nuclear Program as “Baseless and Retaliatory”

Iran’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Majid Takht Ravanchi, has strongly criticized international criticisms of its nuclear program, describing them as “baseless” and “retaliatory.” This comes in response to a recent statement by a high-ranking official from a European nation, which was widely reported to have called Iran’s nuclear program “retarded.”

In a press conference held at the UN headquarters in New York, Ambassador Ravanchi stated that Iran’s peaceful nuclear program is being unfairly targeted and singled out by international powers. He emphasized that Iran’s nuclear activities are fully compliant with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), and that the country has consistently cooperated with international inspectors.

“We will not be intimidated or swayed by such baseless and retaliatory accusations,” Ambassador Ravanchi said, adding that Iran’s nuclear program is purely for peaceful purposes, including the generation of electricity and the production of medical isotopes. He further stated that any attempts to undermine Iran’s sovereignty or its right to develop its own nuclear energy capabilities would be met with firm resistance.

The controversy surrounding Iran’s nuclear program has been a point of contention between Iran and the international community for several years. While Iran has consistently maintained that its nuclear activities are peaceful, many world powers have expressed concerns that the country may be attempting to develop nuclear weapons.

The European official’s statement, which sparked the latest round of tensions, has been widely condemned by the Iranian government. Foreign Ministry officials have called the statement “unacceptable” and “insulting,” and have demanded an apology.

In response to the international criticisms, Iran has announced plans to increase its cooperation with the IAEA and to further open up its nuclear program to international inspection. However, the country has also reaffirmed its right to develop its own nuclear energy capabilities and to defend its sovereignty against external interference.

The situation has raised concerns among regional experts, who warn that the escalating tensions could have far-reaching consequences for the region. “This kind of rhetoric is not helpful and only serves to increase tensions,” said one expert, who wished to remain anonymous. “Iran has made it clear that it will not be deterred from its legitimate goal of developing its own nuclear energy program.”

As tensions between Iran and the international community continue to escalate, many are watching with bated breath to see how the situation will unfold. With the IAEA set to conduct its next round of inspections in the coming weeks, experts warn that the next few months will be critical in determining the future course of the Iranian nuclear program.
