“Iran Condemns U.S. Actions as Ceasefire Violation Amid Regional Tensions”

TEHRAN, IRAN – In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the government has strongly condemned the recent aggression carried out by the United States military against Iranian oil tankers and locations in coastal areas overlooking the Strait of Hormuz. These incidents, which took place on the late hours of Thursday night and the early hours of Friday morning, have been deemed a clear violation of the ceasefire agreement dated April 8, 2026.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the U.S. actions as “terrorist” and emphasized that the Iranian armed forces responded with a decisive strike, resulting in the aggressors failing to achieve their objectives. This development is seen as a serious escalation in the ongoing crisis and a significant escalation of tensions in the region.

According to the statement, these aggressive actions by the U.S. constitute a blatant breach of Article 2(4) of the UN Charter and are considered an act of aggression under UN General Assembly Resolution 3314. The continued hostility by the U.S. government, coupled with its contradictory behavior and absurd rhetoric, serves as evidence of increasing confusion and desperation within the American ruling elite.

In reaffirming Iran’s commitment to defend its territorial integrity, independence, and sovereignty, the Ministry called on the UN Security Council and the Secretary-General to fulfill their responsibilities in maintaining international peace and security. A warning has been issued regarding the serious consequences of international inaction in regards to U.S. violations of law.

Iran reiterates its dedication to good neighborly relations and respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of regional countries. It urges regional governments to act responsibly and work towards establishing a collective security mechanism based on mutual trust, free from destructive external interference.

Commenting on the U.S. military presence in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman, the statement emphasizes that this deployment has not contributed to regional stability but has instead become a source of insecurity with far-reaching regional and global consequences. The Islamic Republic of Iran firmly believes that regional security and stability cannot be linked to U.S. or other foreign interventions, and instead proposes an approach based on collective trust and cooperation between neighboring countries.

In a direct appeal to the international community, Iran urges a stronger commitment to maintaining international peace and security, underscoring the need for collective action to counter the destabilizing actions of the U.S. government in the region.
