Iran Demands Full Implementation of Conflict Agreements Amid Renewed Warning

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohamad Baqer Qalibaf made bold statements over the weekend, reiterating his country’s stance on the recent conflict and outlining its demands to the United States and Israel. Speaking to ISNA, the Iranian state news agency, Qalibaf declared that Tehran “strongly demands” the full implementation of the agreements reached following the recent conflict, warning that Iran would resume its “appropriate measures” if its demands are not met.

The Iranian speaker’s comments come as the region remains on high alert, with diplomatic efforts underway to de-escalate tensions. The conflict in question appears to refer to a recent stand-off between Iran and its regional adversaries, which prompted widespread international concern.

Qalibaf’s statements were also laced with a sense of triumph, as he noted that the conflict had served to underscore the limitations of Iranian adversaries. “The Americans have fully realised in this conflict that they cannot militarily confront Iran,” he declared, adding that the claims of the “Zionist regime” were nothing more than “baseless propaganda”.

In addition to its demands regarding the conflict, Qalibaf also spoke to Iran’s role in the Middle East, cautioning that the country’s support for Lebanon and other regional players would not be deterred. He noted that Lebanon’s parliament had recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at preventing sectarian strife, and urged all components of the Lebanon’s society to work towards the implementation of the relevant clause. He stressed that Iran’s commitment to this cause remains unwavering.

The MoU, signed in Beirut on January 31, 2023, is a key component of Lebanon’s broader efforts to prevent domestic conflict. The agreement, supported by Iran, calls on all signatory parties to take steps towards the resolution of long-standing sectarian disputes.

Qalibaf’s comments come amid heightened tensions between Iran and its regional adversaries, including the United States and Israel. The Israeli authorities, along with their allies, have recently accused Iran of supporting armed groups in the region, particularly those operating in Gaza and Lebanon. Tehran has consistently denied these allegations, however, and its parliament speaker’s latest statements reflect this stance.

In light of Qalibaf’s latest warning, regional observers will be watching closely for developments in the coming days. It remains to be seen whether US and Israeli authorities will heave the weight of Iran’s threat and comply with the requirements outlined in the agreements reached following the recent conflict.
