Iran Responds to Ceasefire Violations with Joint Missile-Drone Operation Against US Positions

Tensions between Iran and the United States escalate as the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) conducted a joint missile-drone operation against US positions in Kuwait and Bahrain overnight, responding to alleged ceasefire violations by the US military.

According to IRIB News, citing the IRGC Public Relations, the operation began at 02:00 local time, carried out by the IRGC Aerospace and Navy, targeting eight objectives at the Ali Al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait and the US Fifth Fleet at Mina Salman, Bahrain. The operation utilized ballistic missiles and drones in a coordinated assault.

This development comes in response to the US strike at five IRGC coastal posts earlier that morning. The US claimed the strike was a preventative measure in the Strait of Hormuz, citing an alleged interception of a “violator vessel” by the IRGC Navy. This assertion has been disputed by the IRGC, which cited the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in response. This MoU emphasizes Iran’s control over transit arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz, warning that violator ships will face a more forceful response than before.

The IRGC Public Relations emphasized that any further US aggression, even against low-value targets, will result in a “crushing response” from Iran. Furthermore, the organization pointed out that the US ceasefire breach violates Article 1 of the Islamabad MoU. In light of this, all processes in the relationship have been put on hold by Iran.

This development marks an escalation in the ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States. As both countries continue to engage in a war of words, it remains to be seen whether diplomacy can prevail to ease the escalating situation.

Details of the damage caused during the operation are currently unclear, as both parties have refrained from releasing official statements regarding the incident’s outcome. However, the statement from the IRGC underscores the escalating conflict and emphasizes Iran’s firm stance on its sovereignty in the region.
