Iran Seeks International Condemnation of U.S.-Israeli Actions from BRICS Nations

The United States and Israel have come under fire from Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi as he calls upon the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) nations to condemn what he perceives as international law violations by the two countries.

In a statement published on social media, Araghchi urged BRICS member states and other responsible participants in the global community to condemn the actions, which he characterized as “serious violations of international law and the United Nations Charter.”

According to Araghchi, the “flagrant” actions by the United States and Israel are having a profoundly detrimental impact on international relations and global security. He also emphasized the imperative of upholding fundamental principles of international law, which includes non-interference in the internal affairs of states and respect for sovereignty.

Araghchi specifically pointed to U.S. and Israeli military and strategic activities in a number of regions, including in the Eastern Mediterranean, the Middle East, and Central Asia. He described these actions as aggressive maneuvers aimed at imposing their will on others through coercion rather than diplomacy.

In a thinly veiled rebuke to the United States and Israel, Araghchi stated that the global community cannot afford inaction in the face of what he called an escalating trend toward militarization and belligerence. He emphasized that the time has come for the BRICS nations to exercise their collective influence to promote peaceful resolution of conflicts and reaffirm their commitment to principles of international cooperation.

It has been a long-held position of the BRICS nations to advocate for greater multilateralism and a rule-based international order. As the BRICS nations represent a significant proportion of the global population, the Iranian foreign minister’s appeal reflects the increasing weight that countries like Iran, Russia, and China have been accumulating in the global governance debate.

Iran seeks to build momentum for an international resolution that rejects what it perceives as aggressive U.S. and Israeli actions. Araghchi’s appeal may also aim to pressure other nations to follow suit and join the growing chorus condemning U.S.-Israeli actions.

While Araghchi’s call to action has raised eyebrows in Washington and Tel Aviv, his appeal serves as a stark reminder of the increasingly divergent viewpoints on U.S. and Israeli actions that are emanating from key international forums.
