Iran-U.S. End-of-War MoU Implementation Under Scrutiny on 13th Day

Tensions between the United States and Iran remain high, as the two nations implement the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at ending the prolonged conflict. On the 13th day since the MoU’s signing, multiple breaches of the agreement have been reported, casting a shadow of doubt on its efficacy. Several key points are being closely monitored, indicating a need for urgent revisions.

One of the most notable developments is the lifting of oil sanctions on Iran, and consequently, the transfer of money from oil sales to Iran’s central banks. This compliance on the U.S. side has been observed. Furthermore, ships from Iran have successfully navigated through the naval blockade, marking another instance of the MoU being upheld. Conversely, the United States has yet to release Iran’s frozen funds, breaching clause 11 of the agreement.

Additional points of contention include the activation of U.S.-Omani corridors in the Strait of Hormoz, an action directly opposing clause 5 of the MoU. An uptick in U.S. military presence has also been noted, with the USS Boxer heading towards the region, clearly contradicting clauses 2 and 9. Washington’s threats towards Iran continue uninterrupted, violating clauses 1 and 2 of the agreement.

War and occupation in Lebanon are ongoing at an increased intensity, breaching MoU clauses 1 and 13. U.S. Vice President, JD Vance, recently stated that the MoU’s true intention is to prepare for what follows the current conflict, rather than aiming for a conclusive end. These remarks flagrantly contradict clauses 1, 2, 13, and 14, adding to the skepticism surrounding the MoU’s effectiveness.

In related news, the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council has denied investing in Iran’s reconstruction efforts, directly breaching clause 6 of the agreement. These findings raise significant questions about the integrity of the U.S.-Iran MoU and its implementation. A resolution to this ongoing diplomatic crisis seems distant as the two nations continue to walk in opposite directions. As the situation unfolds, it is crucial to revisit and reaffirm the terms of the agreement to ensure compliance and avert further deterioration of the fragile Middle East situation.
