Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has asserted that the nation is solidifying its strategic position in the Strait of Hormuz, a waterway critical for global oil exports. In a statement, Ghalibaf warned that the United States and its allies are jeopardizing the security of shipping and energy transit by violating a cease-fire and imposing a blockade.
“The new equation of the Strait of Hormuz is being solidified,” Ghalibaf announced, underscoring Iran’s determination to safeguard its interests in the region. Ghalibaf emphasized that the US and its allies are attempting to exert their influence over the waterway through coercive means, which will ultimately prove futile.
“The security of shipping and energy transit has been compromised by the United States and its allies through the violation of the ceasefire and the imposition of a blockade; of course, their evil will diminish,” Ghalibaf declared, highlighting his government’s resolve to challenge the US-led coalition’s efforts to dominate the region.
Iran’s Parliament Speaker also emphasized that his nation has not yet begun to take decisive action, implying that Tehran is poised to respond firmly to any potential provocations from the US and its allies. “We know full well that the continuation of the status quo is intolerable for America; while we have not even begun yet,” Ghalibaf noted, striking a cautionary tone.
The comments come amid heightened tensions in the region, as the US continues to maintain a robust military presence in the Middle East. Iran has repeatedly condemned what it views as Washington’s aggressive policies in the region, including the re-imposition of sanctions and the assassination of prominent Iranian military commanders outside the country.
The Strait of Hormuz serves as a critical chokepoint for global oil exports, with a significant portion of the world’s oil passing through the waterway each day. The region has been at a heightened state of alert in recent years, with several high-profile incidents in which Iranian and British naval vessels clashed with US forces.
Tehran has been seeking to consolidate its regional influence and protect its national interests in the face of what it perceives as a US-led campaign to weaken and isolate the country. However, its efforts have been met with skepticism from some quarters, with analysts warning that Iran’s aggressive posturing may only exacerbate regional tensions.
