Tehran, Iran – A recent escalation of US airstrikes against key targets in Iran has led to significant casualties, the country’s health ministry confirmed on Monday. According to the latest information available from the Iranian Ministry of Health, the attacks have claimed at least 38 lives and injured over 400 people as of 26 July.
The Ministry’s Public Relations Head, Hossein Kermanpour, stated in a press conference that among the affected are women and children. Specifically, nine women have been reported wounded and one woman has lost her life. Unfortunately, the attacks have also claimed the life of a minor.
The number of survivors remains relatively high, with 47 individuals currently undergoing medical treatment in local hospitals. Kermanpour did not specify which US airstrikes these casualties resulted from but indicated that a comprehensive breakdown of the incident would be provided by relevant authorities.
These developments have exacerbated existing tensions between the two nations, following weeks of heightened diplomatic activity and US rhetoric towards Iran. The exact extent and nature of US military action against the key targets have not been specified, however it is clear that civilians have borne the brunt of the consequences.
In response to questions in the press conference regarding the current condition and care of those affected, Hossein Kermanpour emphasized the efforts of Iran’s emergency response teams and hospitals to tend to the wounded.
“The health and wellbeing of every single injured individual remains our top priority,” Kermanpour said in the statement. “The Ministry is providing medical support and care to those affected, working closely with emergency services teams to stabilise their condition.”
International human rights groups and the United Nations have issued calls for restraint from all parties involved, cautioning over the need to respect and protect the rights of civilians under the laws of war.
