The diplomatic relations between Iran and the international community have taken a public turn, with Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) spokesperson Nasser Kanaani, also known as Baqaei, taking to social media to express concern over the behavior of three countries – the United States, Israel, and Argentina – at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
In a recent post on the social media platform X, Baqaei noted that the three countries stood alone in their opposition to several critical UNGA resolutions in the past two weeks. A resolution declaring the transatlantic slave trade a crime against humanity, countering human trafficking, and emphasizing the need to combat terrorism and protect human rights worldwide garnered the support of all 193 UN member states except for the United States, Israel, and Argentina.
The Iranian diplomat’s comments came in response to these countries’ isolated opposition to these measures, which he argued highlighted their own policies and ideologies. Through a concise but powerful statement, Baqaei underscored that “Aren’t they revealing?” – an assertion that the world can draw its own conclusions regarding the three nations’ international stances.
These UNGA resolutions are considered pivotal in addressing pressing global issues. They underscore the UN’s commitment to countering terrorism and ensuring human rights worldwide, which has garnered widespread approval from all UN member states except the mentioned countries.
According to UN sources, the most significant resolution addressed the transatlantic slave trade, declaring it a ‘crime against humanity’. This resolution was aimed at acknowledging historical wrongs, fostering reconciliation, and providing an opportunity for education and remembrance, ensuring that victims of slavery and their descendants receive reparations.
Similarly, other UNGA resolutions aimed to tackle counter-terrorism, counter human trafficking, and to reaffirm international cooperation in combating these issues.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson expressed strong sentiments on these countries’ international stances, indicating a widening rift between Iran and the United States, Israel, and Argentina at the United Nations.
