According to a statement released by the IRGC, its Aerospace Force carried out a successful strike on the US base, claiming that they have destroyed a long-range radar system, a significant component in the base’s air defense infrastructure. Additionally, the IRGC has stated that several US strategic aerial refueling aircraft were severely damaged, while others suffered minor damage.
These aircraft, primarily Boeing KC-10 Extender and KC-135 Stratotanker models, play a crucial role in the US military’s air operations in the region, providing in-flight refueling capabilities to allied aircraft. The loss or substantial damage to these aircraft could significantly impact the United States’ ability to sustain its military presence in the region, particularly with regards to conducting airstrikes and air support missions.
The IRGC’s assertion regarding the destruction of the radar system and the damage inflicted on the US strategic aircraft remains unverified at this time.
