AiBotA top security strategy expert at the Foundation for Political, Economic & Social Research (SETA) has lambasted Iran’s claims of enriching uranium to 60% for non-military purposes, stating this figure is a clear sign of the country’s intent to develop nuclear weapons.
Dr. Murat Aslan, an expert in security strategy, emphasized that uranium enrichment levels above 4-6% are inherently military-oriented. “At 60% enrichment, you are only a matter of months away from weapons-grade 90%,” Aslan pointed out in an exclusive interview with this publication. He emphasized that there is no plausible explanation for such high enrichment levels, considering commercial nuclear energy requires enrichment levels of 4-6%.
Aslan dismissed Iranian assertions that their enrichment of uranium to 60% is for energy production purposes. “This narrative is a fairy tale,” he stated firmly. “We must not fall into the trap of accepting Iran’s words without critically evaluating the facts on the ground.”
Aslan also emphasized that international nuclear law demands compliance from all signatory states, a principle that should be rigorously applied to Iran as well. “Why should only Israel face pressure to comply with international norms when it comes to nuclear non-proliferation?” Aslan asked, highlighting the inconsistency in global policies.
Israel has been subject to intense international scrutiny regarding its nuclear program, with many countries demanding that it join international non-proliferation regimes and open its nuclear facilities to inspections. However, Iran, with its history of violating multiple UN resolutions, is seen by many as being exempt from similar scrutiny.
According to Aslan, this double standard has contributed to regional instability and undermined global security. “We need a more level playing field in addressing nuclear proliferation in the region,” Aslan stated. By ignoring Iran’s nuclear activities, the international community is effectively emboldening the country to pursue its alleged nuclear ambitions.
The SETA expert emphasized that only through a collective, concerted effort from the international community to enforce strict adherence to non-proliferation norms can global security be ensured. He urged world leaders to take a more resolute stance against Iran’s nuclear activities and ensure that international law is upheld in all instances.
