Sana’a, Yemen – A series of intense airstrikes carried out by the Israeli military has left the Ali al-Sabeen Hospital in Sana’a, the capital city of Yemen, severely damaged. The hospital, which serves as one of the largest healthcare facilities in the country, has been repeatedly targeted by Israeli forces in recent weeks, prompting widespread condemnation from international human rights organizations.
According to eyewitnesses, the airstrikes on Wednesday evening caused significant damage to the hospital’s wards, ICU, and emergency department, forcing medical staff to evacuate patients and relocate to temporary facilities. The Israeli military has not provided a clear explanation for the strikes, but sources close to the hospital suggest that the attacks are part of a broader campaign to weaken the Houthi movement, who control the hospital and much of the northern region.
“This is not the first time that Ali al-Sabeen has been attacked,” said Dr. Muhammad al-Wazir, the hospital’s director. “Over the past few months, we have been targeted at least a dozen times, with significant damage to our facilities and equipment. It’s been a nightmare for us to maintain our services, and now, it seems like the Israeli military is taking this to a whole new level.”
The hospital, which serves over 10,000 patients annually, provides critical medical care to civilians, including women and children. The airstrikes have not only damaged the hospital’s infrastructure but have also disrupted its ability to provide essential services to the community.
“The people of Sana’a are terrified,” said Amal al-Wahdi, a local resident. “Every time we hear the sound of bombing, we rush to the shelter, wondering if it’s Ali al-Sabeen or our own homes that are being targeted. This has been our reality for months now, and it’s like living in a war zone.”
The Israeli military has been conducting airstrikes against Houthi targets in Yemen since 2015, when the conflict escalated following the Houthis’ takeover of the capital city. Human rights organizations, including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, have condemned the airstrikes as “unlawful” and “cruel” and called on the international community to take action to prevent further attacks.
As the conflict shows no signs of resolving, the international community is faced with a growing humanitarian crisis in Yemen, with over 24 million people in need of aid and hundreds of thousands displaced. The repeated targeting of Ali al-Sabeen Hospital has sparked widespread outrage and demands for action to protect civilians and medical facilities in war zones.
A spokesperson for the US State Department, which has provided significant support to the Israeli military, said the country “condemns any attacks that result in the loss of civilian life” but stopped short of denouncing the airstrikes specifically.
As the conflict in Yemen continues to escalate, the people of Sana’a and the international community can only hope for a peaceful resolution and an end to the relentless bombardment of hospitals and civilians.
