Israeli Ambassador to Burkina Faso, Simon Seroussi, formally took office after presenting his letter of credence to President Ibrahim Traoré in Ouagadougou, the capital city of Burkina Faso. The presentation marks the beginning of Seroussi’s diplomatic mandate in the West African country, as he begins to foster closer ties between Israel and Burkina Faso.
Ambassador Seroussi welcomed the opportunity to collaborate with the Burkinabé government and explore areas for mutual benefit. “I look forward to strengthening our bilateral cooperation and working together to drive forward our shared agendas,” he stated. The Israeli government regards this new diplomatic initiative as an important step in further consolidating its relationships across the African continent.
Established in 1960, the Israel-Burkina Faso relationship has traditionally been characterized by a modest exchange of diplomatic representation and trade activities. However, Israel’s growing focus on Africa has seen increased engagement with a number of countries on the continent, seeking to expand collaboration in areas such as agriculture, technology, and security.
During his tenure as ambassador, Seroussi aims to establish more robust links with key sectors in Burkina Faso, including entrepreneurship and innovation. He also intends to facilitate increased exchanges between the private sectors of both countries to generate greater economic activity and cooperation on development projects.
According to sources within the Israeli government, the country’s commitment to strengthening ties with Africa is driven by its desire to develop more comprehensive partnerships with African nations on a range of fronts. Israel views Africa as a vital region for its economic and diplomatic growth, and the development of relationships with nations such as Burkina Faso is an essential component of this strategy.
With this diplomatic move, the Israeli government seeks to leverage Burkina Faso as a gateway to further engagement in the region, particularly in key areas such as regional security and agricultural development. President Ibrahim Traoré welcomed Seroussi to Burkina Faso, acknowledging the importance of the bilateral relationship and reiterating Burkina Faso’s commitment to working closely with its Israeli counterpart in pursuit of regional cooperation.
In a joint statement released following the meeting, Ambassador Seroussi emphasized that he would maintain constant communication with the Burkinabé government to identify additional areas for cooperation between the two countries. As relations between Israel and Burkina Faso continue to evolve, the international community will closely monitor the progress of this developing partnership.
