Beirut, Lebanon – The Israeli army has ordered the evacuation of several villages in southern Lebanon, sparking concerns among local residents and regional officials about escalating tensions between the two nations.
According to reports, residents of Jdeidet Ansar, Zrarieh, Mazraat Kouthariyeh el-Razz, and Mashghara have been instructed to leave their homes “due to military operations” in the area. The evacuation order, which was reportedly issued on Tuesday, has sparked fears among local residents who have been living in the villages for generations.
The Israeli army has maintained a military presence in southern Lebanon since the country’s withdrawal from the region in 2000. However, tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, the Shia militant group based in Lebanon, have been escalating in recent years, raising concerns about the potential for conflict.
The evacuation order comes amid a period of heightened tensions in the region, with reports of Israeli airstrikes on Hezbollah targets in Syria and Lebanon. Hezbollah, which has close ties with Iran, has been accused by Israel of maintaining a network of military bases and supply lines in Lebanon.
Local residents have expressed concern about the evacuation order, citing fears for their safety and the impact on their livelihoods. “This is a difficult situation for us, we have been living here for generations and we have no other place to go,” said a resident of Jdeidet Ansar, who asked not to be named. “We are worried about the impact on our businesses and our families.”
Regional officials have also expressed concerns about the evacuation order, highlighting the potential humanitarian implications. “We are monitoring the situation closely and are working to ensure the safety of local residents,” said a spokesperson for the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “We urge all parties to refrain from taking any actions that could exacerbate tensions in the region.”
The evacuation order has also raised questions about the role of international organizations, such as the United Nations, in maintaining peace and stability in the region. A spokesperson for the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) said that the organization is “committed to maintaining peace and stability in the region” and is working closely with local authorities to address the situation.
As the situation continues to unfold, locals are bracing themselves for the uncertainty ahead. “We are living in a state of fear and uncertainty,” said a resident of Zrarieh. “We hope that this situation will be resolved peacefully and that we can return to our homes as soon as possible.”
