BEIRUT, Lebanon – Reports emerging from the region indicate that Israeli artillery is directing its fire towards several villages in southern Lebanon, including Kafr Tibnit, Arnoun, and Nabatiyeh al-Fawqa. Eyewitnesses and local officials are describing the scale of the shelling as intense, but it remains unclear whether there have been any reports of major damage or loss of life.
According to multiple sources, including social media accounts and official statements from the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF), the strikes are believed to have begun overnight and have continued into the early hours of the morning. Residents in the affected areas are reportedly huddled indoors, seeking refuge from the barrage of artillery fire.
Lebanese authorities have issued a statement condemning the aggression, with officials stressing that the LAF is monitoring the situation closely and is prepared to respond if necessary. The statement called for restraint and an end to Israeli aggression, emphasizing the importance of maintaining regional stability.
Eyewitnesses in Kafr Tibnit, a small village nestled in a valley approximately 6 miles outside of the coastal city of Tyre, described hearing the sound of artillery fire throughout the night. One resident, who wished to remain anonymous, stated, “We heard the explosions getting closer and closer, and we knew something was wrong. We’ve been staying huddled indoors, trying to wait this out.”
Arnoun, a town of approximately 10,000 residents, lies on the outskirts of Tyre, with the majority of its residents fleeing their homes as the artillery fire intensified. Witnesses in the area have reported seeing smoke plumes rising above the town and the surrounding hillsides.
In Nabatiyeh al-Fawqa, which sits at the foot of the Shouf Mountains, residents also reported hearing artillery fire, although details of the impact on the area remain sketchy.
No statements have been forthcoming from the Israeli military regarding the reasons behind the strikes, nor have there been any reports of casualties within Israeli territory. However, a senior Israeli military official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told a Lebanese news organization that Israeli forces were responding to perceived threats emanating from southern Lebanon.
The Israeli-Lebanese border has remained tense since the end of the 2006 war between the two countries, with periodic outbreaks of violence. Despite attempts to broker a resolution to the longstanding conflict, a lasting peace agreement has yet to be reached, leaving the region susceptible to sudden flare-ups.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of regional relations and the ongoing threat of military escalation. As the situation in southern Lebanon continues to develop, residents in the affected areas are bracing for further conflict, while the international community remains on high alert, awaiting a response from all parties involved.
