ISRAELI FORCES’ FORCED ENTRY INTO DEHEISHE CAMP RESULTS IN EVACUATION OF DOZENS OF CHILDREN

Bethlehem, West Bank – At least 40 children have been evacuated from the Al-Ahliyya University’s campus in Deheishe Refugee Camp, near Bethlehem, as Israeli forces stormed into the Palestinian neighborhood overnight, according to sources familiar with the situation.

Eyewitnesses report seeing Israeli soldiers moving swiftly through the streets, setting up check-points and detaining several residents. The situation is said to have rapidly escalated following an exchange of fire between the Israeli military and local armed resistance fighters.

As the situation continued to unfold, Israeli forces launched tear gas grenades into the residential areas of the camp, forcing locals to evacuate their homes. Amidst the chaos, numerous families, including young children, fled their homes seeking safety. At least 40 children, many of whom were reportedly in elementary school and were caught in the crossfire while at home, have been taken to the local Red Crescent’s emergency shelter for support and medical attention.

“It was a night of chaos and fear,” said a local resident, who wished to remain anonymous. “We heard gunfire and explosions all around us, and then suddenly, the air was filled with the smell of tear gas. We quickly realized we had to get our kids to safety, and lucky for us, we were able to get to the Red Crescent shelter before things got worse.”

The Red Crescent, which is affiliated with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), has provided emergency aid and shelter to the evacuated children. Medical aid workers reported treating minor injuries and ensuring the children’s emotional well-being.

“We have been preparing for the worst-case scenario for some time now,” said a spokesperson for the Red Crescent. “In times of extreme conflict, our priority is to protect the most vulnerable members of society. We are working closely with local authorities and aid organizations to ensure that all those in need receive support and assistance.”

In response to the incident, the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the Israeli forces’ actions as a gross violation of international law. Israeli military officials have yet to publicly comment on the incident.

The Deheishe Refugee Camp has become the focal point of tensions in recent weeks, as tensions between Israeli forces and Palestinian resistance fighters have escalated. Ongoing conflict in the region has left thousands displaced and has had a devastating impact on local infrastructure and community structures.

The international community has called for restraint and de-escalation of violence in the region, with several world leaders urging Israeli officials to adhere to international humanitarian law.

The latest incident serves as a stark reminder of the complexities and dangers faced by civilians in conflict zones and highlights the urgent need for a sustained peace process in the Middle East.
