Srinagar, Kashmir – A wave of explosions rocked the disputed Kashmir region on Wednesday, leaving multiple casualties and widespread destruction in its wake. The blasts, which occurred in various parts of the region, have heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, who have a long-standing dispute over the territory.
According to eyewitnesses, the explosions began with a series of blasts in the early morning hours, targeting key infrastructure and public gathering places. One of the most devastating blasts occurred in the city of Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian-administered Kashmir, where a crowded marketplace was hit, killing at least 15 people and injuring over 20.
“We heard a massive explosion and saw people running for their lives,” said a local resident, who wished to remain anonymous. “The marketplace was filled with people shopping for Ramadan, and it was a chaotic scene.”
The Indian authorities have reported that the explosions were caused by homemade bombs and grenades, which were left in various locations by unidentified militants. The region has witnessed a long-standing insurgency, with various groups fighting for independence from Indian rule.
While the Indian government has blamed Pakistani-backed militants for the blasts, Islamabad has denied any involvement, saying that the blame lies with the Indian authorities for their handling of the region. The Pakistan foreign office issued a statement condemning the blasts and calling for an independent investigation.
“The people of Kashmir are innocent and deserve to live in peace,” said Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson. “We call upon the international community to take note of the ongoing situation and play their role in resolving this issue through dialogue and diplomacy.”
The Kashmir region has witnessed a rise in violence in recent months, with multiple encounters between security forces and militants resulting in casualties on both sides. The situation has been further complicated by the ongoing standoff between India and Pakistan over the region, which has led to heightened tensions between the two nations.
As the situation in Kashmir continues to deteriorate, the international community is urging both India and Pakistan to engage in dialogue to find a peaceful resolution to the dispute. The United Nations has called for an immediate end to violence and a return to the negotiating table.
The explosions in Kashmir come at a time when the region is preparing to celebrate Eid-al-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan. The Indian authorities have announced a massive security operation to maintain law and order during the celebrations, but residents are still anxious about the safety of their loved ones.
“The explosions have left us traumatized,” said a local resident. “We are living in fear, and we don’t know what the future holds.”
