A local business owner, who wished to remain anonymous, stated: “Every day is a gamble – you never know if you’ll be able to access fuel for your business, or electricity for your home. This uncertainty is debilitating and affects all aspects of our lives.”
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) has called for enhanced international support to aid Ukraine’s humanitarian response. According to UN figures, over a million people have been displaced by the conflict, with a significant proportion of these requiring urgent assistance.
Despite efforts by both the Ukrainian government and international bodies, many residents remain skeptical about a resolution to the conflict in the near future. With fighting ongoing and civilians caught in the crossfire, it is evident that the people of Kiev, in particular, are struggling to come to terms with a grim reality.
