Beirut, Lebanon – The Islamic Resistance in Lebanon has taken a decisive military action in response to what they describe as ceasefire violations by Israeli forces along the country’s southern border. The Resistance claimed that it had adhered to the ceasefire agreement, which has been in place since 2022, but the enemy, believed to be Israeli-backed forces, had not.
According to a statement issued by the Islamic Resistance on Thursday, April 9, 2026, they targeted the Hounine barracks, a strategic military outpost located opposite the border town of Markaba, with a rocket barrage at 1:30 PM. The statement emphasized that this response would continue until the Israeli-American aggression against Lebanon and its people ceases.
The Hounine barracks is reportedly a key Israeli military installation used to monitor and control the southern border of Lebanon. The location is a significant target for the Resistance due to its strategic value and potential for disrupting Israeli military operations.
While the official Israeli response was not readily available, the Israeli government has been known to downplay incidents involving rocket fire from their side of the border and often attributes such incidents to Lebanese militias, a reference to the Hezbollah Party. The party denies such allegations.
The statement from the Islamic Resistance stressed that their action was taken in defense of Lebanon and its people, reiterating their commitment to protecting the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. It also hinted at a broader campaign of targeted military actions against Israeli military and intelligence targets, should their demands not be met.
Local reports from the border town of Markaba indicate that the area was hit by a series of explosions, but there were no immediate reports of casualties. The sounds of gunfire and explosions could be heard in the area, and several local residents described the scene as chaotic.
As tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border continue to rise, concerns about the potential for a wider conflict are growing. The international community, including the United Nations, is expected to closely monitor the situation and urge restraint from all parties involved.
The Israeli-American backed forces and their allies in the southern Lebanon area, are yet in the process of providing a detailed response to this incident and are expected to maintain their aggressive posture along the Lebanon-Israel border.
