A 41-year-old Maine resident, Jenny Racicot, has come forward with allegations that she was raped by her former boyfriend and high school football coach, Michael Platner, five years ago. According to a statement made by Racicot, Platner allegedly entered her home while intoxicated and forced himself upon her in 2021.
Details surrounding the alleged incident were not disclosed, but the incident reportedly occurred when Racicot and Platner were still in a romantic relationship. Platner, 37, has been employed as a football coach at a local high school since 2012 and was also known to have coached the regional football team from 2010-2012, prior to his employment at the high school.
Local authorities have confirmed that they are currently investigating the allegations made by Racicot, though no formal charges have been filed at this time. A lawyer representing Platner, in a statement released to local media, has maintained that Platner denies all allegations of assault and misconduct, adding that the two individuals in question were engaged in a consensual relationship at the time the alleged incident took place.
In a statement, authorities in Maine stressed the importance of confidentiality in cases such as this. “We urge the public to respect the privacy of those involved in investigations and refrain from spreading misinformation on social media,” the statement read. The police agency responsible for the case has pledged to conduct a thorough investigation, while Platner remains employed as a coach at the high school pending further developments.
The allegations against Platner have raised questions within the local community about accountability and support systems in institutions. Local advocates for victims of abuse and assault have spoken out on social media, stating that their organization “will continue to work closely with regional authorities to ensure that individuals with such allegations are held accountable.”
The local high school Platner coaches for, has declined to comment on the matter. The regional football league where Platner also coached has issued a statement stating they “will be closely monitoring the situation” and have yet to issue a more substantial statement in regards to Platner’s employment status.
Platner’s current employment status remains unchanged at this time. However, local residents are calling for greater transparency in the matter, and authorities have promised to address the community’s growing concerns as they move forward with the investigation.
