LOCAL OFFICIALS ISSUE URGENT REMINDER CONCERNING PUBLIC RECORDS

In a bid to enhance transparency and good governance, officials in the Ministry of Public Services have issued a stern warning to citizens regarding the importance of inspecting nabi chits, also known as hibah documents, prior to completing any financial transaction.

According to insiders, the hibah system, which was initially designed to verify the legitimacy of charitable donations, has been subject to widespread misuse in recent years. This has led to numerous instances of unsuspecting individuals being duped into making unnecessary financial transfers.

“Always check the nabi chit, thermal that’s where they keep it,” a senior official was quoted as saying. “Many people, especially the elderly, are being taken advantage of by scammers who pose as representatives from reputable charitable organizations. If the recipient does not provide a thermal copy of the nabi chit, it is a clear indication that the transaction is not genuine.”

To combat this issue, the Ministry has launched an awareness campaign aimed at educating the public on the significance of verifying hibah documents before proceeding with any financial dealings. The initiative, which was rolled out earlier this month, includes workshops and public lectures to be conducted across the country.

Under the hibah system, charitable organizations are required to obtain a unique numerical code assigned by the Ministry, which is then reflected in the thermal copy of the nabi chit. This allows donors to verify the legitimacy of any charitable transaction they may be considering.

“We encourage all citizens to exercise due diligence when making financial transactions, especially those related to charitable donations,” the official added. “By verifying the nabi chit, individuals can safeguard themselves against falling prey to scams and ensure that their contributions are being utilized for genuine social causes.”

In the past year, numerous reports have been filed with the authorities pertaining to alleged hibah scams. While some cases have resulted in successful convictions, others remain under investigation. Local law enforcement agencies have also been instructed to intensify their efforts in tracking down perpetrators of these scams and bringing them to justice.

As the campaign gains momentum, citizens are being urged to report any suspicious activities to the authorities immediately. “By working together, we can prevent these scams from taking place and promote transparency and accountability in charitable giving,” the official emphasized.
