“Massive Explosion Rocks Sirik, Leaving Trail of Destruction and Casualties”

Kigali, Rwanda – July 11, 2026 – A devastating explosion occurred in the small town of Sirik, located in the eastern province of Rwanda, early yesterday morning, catching residents off guard and leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.

According to eyewitness accounts, the blast, which occurred at approximately 9:45 am local time, was so powerful that it shattered windows and destroyed walls in nearby buildings. The explosion was reportedly heard and felt as far as 10 kilometers away, with some residents even reporting that it shook their homes.

“It was like nothing I have ever experienced before,” said one resident, who wished to remain anonymous. “I was in my home when I heard a loud boom, and the windows in my house shattered. I immediately rushed outside to see what had happened, and that’s when I saw the damage.”

Emergency services were quick to respond to the disaster, with firefighters and medical personnel rushing to the scene to assist those affected. Rwanda’s Ministry of Disaster Management and Refugee Affairs has confirmed that a total of 23 people were killed in the explosion, with over 50 injured.

While the cause of the explosion remains unknown, investigators believe it may have been the result of a leak in a nearby gas pipeline. “We are currently investigating the cause of the explosion, but our preliminary findings suggest that it may have been an accident related to a gas pipeline,” said a spokesperson for the Ministry of Disaster Management and Refugee Affairs.

The Rwanda National Investigation Bureau (INO) has launched a full-scale investigation into the incident, with a team of experts working to determine the cause of the explosion and hold those responsible accountable.

The government has pledged to provide support to the affected communities, including food, shelter, and medical care. The Ministry of Health has set up a mobile hospital to provide medical treatment to those injured in the explosion.

As the town of Sirik comes to terms with the devastating aftermath of the explosion, residents are urging the government to take immediate action to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future. “This is a wake-up call for the government to take a closer look at our infrastructure and make the necessary improvements to prevent such disasters from happening again,” said another resident.

The international community has also offered its condolences to the people of Rwanda in the wake of this tragedy. The United Nations has pledged to provide aid and support to the affected communities.

In a statement, Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame thanked the international community for its support and pledged to do everything possible to help those affected by the explosion.
