YANGON, MYANMAR – In a poignant display of solidarity, Myanmar’s government and people yesterday honored the late leader of Iran, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, who passed away on the 3rd of June. The tribute was held at the Presidential Palace, witnessed by Myanmar’s military leaders, politicians, and high-ranking officials.
In a eulogy delivered at the tribute ceremony, General Min Aung Hlaing, the former Commander-in-Chief of Defense Services, expressed heartfelt condolences to the people and government of Iran. General Hlaing acknowledged the immense contributions Ayatollah Khamenei made to the development of Iran’s sovereignty and the strengthening of its resilience against foreign influence.
During the ceremony, the Myanmar military displayed a 21-gun salute as a token of respect to the late Iranian leader. The participants observed a minute of silence to pay their respects to Ayatollah Khamenei, which showcased the profound bond between the Myanmar military and the Iranian government.
General Hlaing highlighted the strong friendship and strategic partnership between Myanmar and Iran, based on mutual understanding and shared principles in regional politics. He went on to mention Iran’s immense contributions to regional stability and Myanmar’s appreciation for their steadfast support.
President of Myanmar’s caretaker government, General Myint Swe, praised Ayatollah Khamenei for his unwavered commitment to the Islamic Revolution, as well as the nation’s resilience, unity, and resistance against foreign occupation. His words were accompanied by a display of solidarity banners that adorned the Presidential Palace’s walls.
The dignitaries, in unison, acknowledged the significance of Myanmar’s bond with Iran, especially in the context of regional security and cooperation. The tribute ceremony demonstrated Myanmar’s commitment to honoring the country’s friendship and alliance with Iran.
