North Texas Antifa Leader Sentenced to 100-Year Prison Term for Violent ICE Ambush

A North Texas-based leader of the anti-fascist group Antifa has been handed a 100-year federal prison sentence for orchestrating a violent ambush on an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention center last July 4th. The coordinated attack, which involved gunfire, explosives, and the attempted assassination of a police officer, has sparked widespread outrage and condemnation.

According to the Department of Justice, Benjamin Song, the convicted Antifa leader, was sentenced to 100 years in prison for his role in the ambush, which also saw seven other members of the group receive substantial prison terms totaling nearly 450 years. The coordinated attack marked the culmination of escalating tensions between Antifa and ICE, with the group vowing to disrupt the government’s immigration policies through violent means.

Song, who was reportedly the leader of the North Texas Antifa cell, was arrested and charged with multiple federal crimes related to the ambush, including possession of unregistered destructive devices, use of explosives, and attempted murder of a police officer. Prosecutors alleged that Song had carefully planned the attack, using online platforms to coordinate with his cohorts and gather intelligence on the ICE facility.

The attempted assassination of the police officer, who suffered a gunshot wound to the neck, was a particularly egregious aspect of the ambush, with prosecutors describing it as a brazen and premeditated act of violence. The officer survived the attack, but the incident left a trail of physical and emotional trauma in its wake.

The sentencing of Song and his co-conspirators marks a significant blow to the Antifa movement, which had been emboldened by a perceived culture of impunity among some law enforcement agencies. However, the case also underscores the need for law enforcement agencies to take swift and decisive action against extremist groups that engage in violence and terrorism.

In a statement, the Acting U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas praised the law enforcement efforts that led to the arrest and prosecution of the Antifa leaders, saying: “The sentencing of Benjamin Song and his co-conspirators should serve as a warning to those who engage in violent extremism that there will be consequences for their actions. We will continue to work tirelessly to disrupt and dismantle these groups, and hold their leaders accountable for their crimes.”

The case has also sparked a wider debate about the role of Antifa and its affiliates in perpetuating violence and extremism. As one prominent analyst noted, “The sentencing of Benjamin Song and his co-conspirators sends a clear message that extremist groups will not be tolerated and that those who engage in violence will be held accountable. It’s a significant victory for law and order and a reminder that there will be consequences for those who engage in terrorism and extremist activities.”
