Tehran, Iran – Andreas Motzfeldt Kravik, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway, arrived in Tehran on Tuesday to lead a diplomatic delegation in consultations with Iranian officials. The key discussions centered around the bilateral relations between Norway and Iran, the imposed war by the United States and the Israeli regime against Iran, and the ongoing developments in the Islamabad talks process.
A meeting with Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, marked the beginning of a packed schedule for Deputy Minister Kravik. The two ministers engaged in an in-depth discussion on the critical aspects affecting Iran-Norway relations, including the repercussions of the American-Israeli military aggression and the economic and security implications for Iran. Araghchi pointed out the primary obstacle to reaching a potential agreement lies in the American side’s maximalist approach, threatening rhetoric, and lack of goodwill and honesty.
In response, Araghchi also underscored the pivotal role of the military aggression by the United States and the Israeli regime as the fundamental cause of the current situation in the Strait of Hormuz. This is compounded by repeated ceasefire violations and continued blockade of Iran’s maritime ports, leading to increased tensions and instability in the region. Iran is currently engaged in a collaborative effort to develop operational arrangements aimed at enhancing and facilitating safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, in accordance with international law.
As a coastal state of the Strait of Hormuz, Iran is also actively engaging with international stakeholders to formulate relevant regulations that conform to international legal frameworks. This development highlights Iran’s commitment to strengthening the rule of law and ensuring maritime safety and environmental protection.
Deputy Minister Kravik presented a report on his meetings with Iranian officials, including discussions with representatives from Pakistan and Oman, emphasizing the imperative for sustainable peace and stability in the region, as well as the importance of upholding international law. Norway has expressed its readiness to provide support in promoting peace and diplomatic efforts, as well as contributing to the enhancement of maritime safety and environmental protection.
Throughout his visit, Kravik held separate meetings with high-ranking Iranian officials, including Majid Takht-Ravanchi (Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs), Kazem Gharibabadi (Deputy for Legal and International Affairs), and Saeed Khatibzadeh (Head of the Institute for Political and International Studies). The discussions covered issues of mutual regional and international interest, as well as bilateral matters.
