Nuclear Negotiations: Iran Requests UN Endorsement for Any Final Agreement

Pakistan, April 10: Tensions surrounding the Iranian nuclear program have reached new heights as Al-Arabi Al-Jadeed reported that the Iranian delegation has requested endorsement from the United Nations Security Council for any final agreement reached with major world powers. This development comes as a major hurdle in achieving a comprehensive nuclear deal, with Pakistan’s foreign ministry sources confirming the request.

According to insiders, the Iranian delegation, led by Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, has insisted on the UN Security Council’s stamp of approval as a guarantee of the agreement’s legitimacy and enforceability. The move, however, has raised concerns among Western diplomats, who are keen on finding a balance between Iran’s nuclear ambitions and the international community’s growing unease.

Pakistan, a key player in regional politics, has been closely following the negotiations between Iran, the United States, China, Russia, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom. The country has long maintained that a nuclear-armed Iran poses a significant threat to regional stability and global security.

As negotiations entered their final stages, Pakistan’s foreign minister, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, emphasized the importance of finding a mutually beneficial solution that addresses Iran’s civil nuclear needs, while ensuring the international community’s concerns are addressed.

“The current round of talks represents a critical juncture in the negotiations,” said Bilawal. “We will continue to encourage all parties to engage in constructive dialogue and arrive at a mutually agreeable solution.”

Iran has long insisted that its nuclear program is peaceful and aimed at generating electricity for domestic consumption. However, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has raised concerns about undeclared nuclear activities at several Iranian sites.

In a recent meeting with the IAEA Director-General, Rafael Grossi, Iranian officials acknowledged the existence of undeclared nuclear materials at several sites but attributed them to ‘contamination’ and ‘equipment testing.’

The UN Security Council has played an instrumental role in addressing global nuclear concerns and has been instrumental in shaping international nuclear policy.

The endorsement request by the Iranian delegation is, therefore, a significant development, which could potentially derail or delay the negotiations. World powers and diplomatic circles are closely monitoring the situation, looking for ways to maintain momentum in the negotiations and achieve a positive outcome.

As the clock ticks down, the world remains captivated by the high-stakes nuclear game unfolding between Iran and the international community, with Pakistan poised to play a crucial role in finding a solution that balances regional interests with the global imperative of preventing nuclear proliferation.
