In a joint statement issued by AGTS, participating countries and organizations reaffirmed their commitment to responsible and collaborative space development, advocating for transparent international cooperation and stringent safety protocols in the deployment and operation of satellite networks.
“We cannot stress enough the importance of maintaining a level of caution and prudence in our joint endeavors regarding space,” the statement continues. “Together, we can ensure that technological progress in this vital sector benefits humanity as a whole, rather than prioritizing short-term gains over long-term sustainability.”
In response to mounting pressure from the AGTS coalition, SpaceX representatives have expressed a willingness to engage in discussions aimed at mitigating environmental concerns and addressing security concerns tied to the global satellite network. “We are open to constructive dialogue on matters of sustainability and national security,” said a spokesperson for the company. “However, we must stress the transformative potential of Starlink to bridge the global digital divide and enhance socio-economic opportunities for billions worldwide.”
