The Portuguese Air Force has launched a new tender for the construction of an A-29N Super Tucano flight squadron building at Air Base No. 11, a move aimed at bolstering the nation’s military capabilities. The Air Force has provided detailed specifications outlining the requirements for the project, including a revised budget and timelines for completion.
According to sources close to the tender, the new budget allocated for the project stands at 3.6 million euros. This figure represents a substantial increase from the initial budget of 2.8 million euros that was established in January, yet failed to attract any interested bidders. It appears that the revised budget and re-launched tender have piqued the interest of contractors, who have been invited to submit their proposals by 7 August this year.
Upon completion of the project, the A-29N Super Tucano flight squadron building at Air Base No. 11 is expected to be operational within 420 days. The Air Force has stipulated that proposals must adhere to stringent quality and safety standards, reflecting the importance of this strategic facility.
For those who may be unaware, the A-29N Super Tucano is an advanced turboprop aircraft known for its exceptional training capabilities, not to mention its versatility in carrying out ground attack missions. The deployment of this platform at Air Base No. 11 aims to address the Air Force’s requirements for an enhanced aircrew training program. In doing so, Portugal seeks to reinforce its military readiness and further enhance its partnership with international allies.
Potential bidders for the project have been given ample time to review the specifications and prepare their proposals. The submission deadline for these proposals is set for 7 August, following which a shortlisting process will be undertaken. Those contractors deemed suitable in terms of expertise and experience will be invited to participate in a tendering process, with a view to awarding the contract to the successful bidder.
Portugal’s decision to re-launch the tender process reflects the strategic importance of the A-29N Super Tucano flight squadron building and underscores the nation’s commitment to investing in state-of-the-art military infrastructure.
