According to reports, the second earthquake, which measured 5.7 on the Richter scale, centered around Kuzaran, a city in the province.
The initial earthquake, which is believed to have caused widespread destruction, was centered in the neighboring Khonj County. Reports indicate that the 5.7 aftershock caused additional damage to homes and buildings already weakened by the initial quake. Rescue efforts in the area are ongoing, and authorities are urging residents to exercise caution and stay indoors while rescue teams navigate the affected areas.
Iran’s Seismological Center confirmed the aftershock, stating that it was felt in several areas surrounding Kuzaran. So far, there have been no reports of major casualties as a result of the aftershock. However, relief teams are on high alert, bracing for potential secondary damage from the aftershock.
The initial earthquake, which was reportedly magnitude 5.9, struck the region at approximately 9:28 pm local time. Rescue workers, emergency responders, and military units rushed to the scene to provide aid to those in need.
“We’re working tirelessly to assess the damage and assist those affected by the earthquake and aftershock,” said Mohammad Hossein Mirmohammad, head of the Fars Province Emergency Response Center. “We’re urging people to exercise extreme caution and stay indoors until further notice.”
