PROTESTERS-PAID-SALARY CLASH WITH NYPD DURING ISRAEL PROTEST MARCH

A tense standoff unfolded in New York City yesterday evening between a group of anti-Israel protesters and law enforcement officials from the New York Police Department (NYPD). The confrontation took place during a march organized by the American Muslims for Palestine (AMP), which aimed to draw attention to the recent land sale disputes between Israel and Palestine.

Tensions escalated when protesters, estimated to be around 200-strong, made their way to Park East Synagogue, where a “Land Sale” event was being held. Demonstrators blocked the streets surrounding the synagogue, with some engaging in barricade-style clashes with NYPD officers.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing police in riot gear attempting to disperse the crowd using pepper spray and batons. However, the protesters, mostly clad in hijabs and holding signs that read “Free Palestine,” appeared undeterred in their efforts.

“It was intense, I can barely describe it,” said Amira, 28, a Brooklyn resident who claims to have witnessed the clash firsthand. “I saw a protester being arrested and another one getting hit with a baton. The police were aggressive, but the protesters were not going down without a fight.”

According to statements by the NYPD, approximately 11 individuals were taken into custody after protesters began throwing objects at the police line and allegedly attempted to breach a blockage.

Amira emphasized that this was not just about the Israel-Palestine conflict but also a display of resistance against “what feels like increasing Islamophobia in this country.”

“This event was not simply an exercise of free speech,’ Amira contended, ‘it was a form of self-expression.’ Protesters continued their march for several miles throughout Manhattan despite heavy rain.

Leaders from the AMP, a coalition of 10 organizations involved in the protest, decried the police response as excessive and vowed to organize further demonstrations to raise awareness about the contentious land sales.
