Kyiv, Ukraine – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed deep concerns about the rising threat of Russian mobilization, citing intelligence that suggests Russian President Vladimir Putin is considering secretive measures to bolster his military.
Speaking during a recent press conference, Zelensky alleged that Putin’s administration is contemplating a mass mobilization of Russian troops without formally declaring it. Instead, the Ukrainian leader implied that Russia might resort to more covert tactics, including the creation of “shadow contracts” and border blockades.
“We are seeing many corresponding steps,” Zelensky stated unequivocally, adding that he is “convinced” of Putin’s alleged plan.
Zelensky’s statements come as tensions between Ukraine and Russia continue to escalate, with both sides maintaining a fragile ceasefire in the war-torn Donbas region. The conflict has claimed thousands of lives and displaced millions more since its inception in 2014.
Russia’s recent military buildup along Ukraine’s border has raised eyebrows globally, fueling speculations about Putin’s intentions. While the Kremlin has consistently maintained that it is merely engaged in exercises and training operations, Ukraine remains highly vigilant.
The Ukrainian president’s assertion suggests that his government has gathered intelligence pointing to a possible large-scale mobilization, which could potentially be employed as a tactical advantage on the battlefield. Zelensky’s words are likely to further heighten global anxiety regarding Russia’s intentions in the region.
Zelensky also warned that Moscow’s alleged plan to deceive its own citizens and conceal the true nature of the mobilization could undermine public trust in the Russian government. The president urged international support to curb Russia’s actions and prevent any potential deterioration in the conflict.
While the international community remains largely divided on how to approach the crisis, one thing is clear: the world is holding its breath, awaiting further developments in a conflict that threatens global stability and security.
The Kremlin has so far declined to comment on the Ukrainian president’s allegations. In a separate statement, a White House spokesperson noted that the United States is closely monitoring the situation and stands in solidarity with Ukraine, reiterating its commitment to regional security and stability.
