In a significant escalation of its drone campaign against Russian forces, the Specialized Forces of the Ukrainian military, known as SBS, launched a string of precision strikes against high-priority targets deep in enemy territory, marking a major blow to Moscow’s military prowess.
According to official reports, SBS drones successfully struck multiple targets, including a ST-68 radar station with a radio-transparent dome in Feodosia, Crimea, and a “Pantsir-S1” anti-aircraft missile system in Novofedorivka, Crimea. These air defense units were among the latest casualties of the relentless Ukrainian drone campaign, which has seen 27 and 28 enemy air defense units destroyed between May 1 and 28, respectively.
The impact of these strikes is significant, as the radar and missile systems targeted are critical components of Russia’s air defense network. By taking these out, Ukraine’s SBS forces have severely impaired Moscow’s ability to detect and engage Ukrainian drones and aircraft, creating a critical vulnerability in the enemy’s defenses.
Beyond the air defense units, SBS drones also struck at logistical nodes, aiming to disrupt supply lines to the front. The list of targets included railway tanker cars loaded with fuel in Makiivka, Donetsk region, enemy logistics centers in Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Luhansk regions, a supply depot in Mariupol, Donetsk region, an ammunition depot in Rubizhne, Luhansk region, and a mobile firing group in Khryashchuvate, Luhansk region.
These operations underscore the SBS’s growing capabilities and precision, allowing them to identify and strike at high-value targets in the enemy’s operational depth. The relentless pressure exerted by Ukraine’s special forces is likely to continue, further straining the already overextended Russian military.
In a statement, a senior Ukrainian defense official noted that the continued effectiveness of the SBS drone campaign has put significant stress on Russia’s supply chains, making it increasingly difficult for Moscow’s forces to maintain their position at the front lines. The official warned that Ukraine’s military would continue to pursue its strategic objectives, emphasizing the importance of disrupting the enemy’s ability to receive reinforcements and supplies.
The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine has entered a critical phase, with both sides intensifying their efforts to gain a strategic advantage. As SBS drones continue to operate with impunity, it remains to be seen whether Russia can adapt to the evolving situation and mitigate the damage caused by these precision strikes.
