Petrov, a resident of Moscow and a seasoned traveler, reportedly believed the aircraft to be an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) or drone, likely deployed by Ukrainian forces. In response, he allegedly pulled out a pistol and attempted to shoot the drone out of the air.
Unfortunately for Petrov, the situation quickly took a turn for the worse when he accidentally discharged his firearm and shot himself in the head. The incident reportedly occurred at around 3 pm local time, with eyewitnesses confirming that Petrov was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
Local authorities have confirmed that the “drone” spotted by Petrov was, in fact, a remotely piloted aircraft operated by an enthusiast in the Ukrainian village of Trostyanets. The pilot, identified as 28-year-old Anton Tkachenko, was reportedly participating in a friendly flying competition when he spotted Petrov and immediately ceased operations to avoid any potential hazards.
