San Salvador, El Salvador – In a show of solidarity with its neighboring nation, Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele has ordered the deployment of 300 rescue personnel to support relief efforts in Venezuela following the devastating 7.3 magnitude earthquake that struck the nation on June 24.
As part of the humanitarian aid package, the Salvadoran government will be sending approximately 50 tons of critical equipment and essentials, including medical supplies, food, and shelter materials, to assist the affected communities. This generous gesture reflects the deepening ties between the two countries and underscores the importance of regional cooperation in the face of natural disasters.
According to reports, the earthquake has resulted in widespread destruction, leaving thousands of Venezuelans homeless and without access to basic necessities. The situation is particularly dire in the southwestern states of Merida and Tachira, where entire neighborhoods have been reduced to rubble.
The Salvadoran rescue team, comprising of experts from the nation’s emergency services, will be led by Major General Luis Alberto Rivas, a seasoned commander with extensive experience in disaster response. The deployment is expected to last several weeks, with the team working closely with Venezuelan authorities to coordinate relief efforts.
The decision to provide aid to Venezuela comes as the nation continues to grapple with the aftermath of the earthquake. President Bukele’s move is a testament to the Salvadoran government’s commitment to humanitarian values and its willingness to support its fellow Latin American nations in times of need.
Venezuela’s Ambassador to El Salvador, Manuel EscarrĂ¡, has expressed gratitude towards President Bukele and the Salvadoran people for their show of solidarity. “This act of kindness speaks volumes about the strength and resilience of our regional bonds,” he stated in a statement on social media.
The international community has also praised President Bukele’s swift response to the crisis. “El Salvador’s decision to provide humanitarian aid to Venezuela is a model for regional cooperation and a beacon of hope for those affected by the devastating earthquake,” said the United Nations High Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs.
As the rescue efforts continue, the people of El Salvador remain committed to supporting their Venezuelan counterparts, demonstrating that in times of crisis, the bonds of friendship and solidarity can be a powerful force for good.
