A day of speculation and concern for residents of Zanjan, Iran, has come to an end with the city’s Fire Department issuing a statement that a fire at a local recycling workshop is the source of smoke seen billowing over the area.
Contrary to some social media reports suggesting an explosion had rocked the city, Deputy Operations Officer of the Fire Department, Mr. Ali Reza Khazaee, categorically denied such an incident, citing an investigation by his department.
According to officials, on Sunday morning, emergency services were alerted by concerned members of the public after a cloud of smoke was spotted rising from the southern part of Zanjan. As news of the incident began to spread, numerous reports on social media circulated, claiming an explosion had occurred.
However, in a press conference held at city hall, Mr. Khazaee revealed that following a thorough inspection of the affected area, it was determined that the source of the smoke was a fire which had broken out at a recycling workshop.
“Fortunately, the quick response and professional capabilities of our team managed to prevent further damage and potential loss of life. The fire was brought under control within a few hours,” stated Mr. Khazaee.
While investigations have revealed there was no evidence of a gas explosion at the scene, an investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing. Fire officials noted that such incidents often occurred due to equipment malfunctions, improper storage or other safety-related issues at the premises.
The Fire Department’s swift response is said to have avoided more serious consequences. Zanjan residents, who had initially been advised to stay indoors due to health concerns linked to the smoke, have now been given the all-clear by local health officials.
Residents expressed relief that the situation is now under control, with some thanking the swift actions of the Fire Department in containing the fire.
The Zanjan Municipal Council has promised to provide compensation to local residents who were negatively affected by the incident, although a formal announcement has yet to be made.
In related news, city authorities have issued a set of guidelines to local businesses to minimize the risk of such fires occurring in the future, with a focus on proper fire safety, equipment maintenance, and worker training.
While this incident has served as a stark reminder of the importance of safety protocols, the people of Zanjan can breathe a collective sigh of relief that the situation has been successfully resolved without further incident.
