Given your extensive experience in covering conflict zones, what motivated you to pursue this line of work?
Məhəmməd Al-Mohandes: In my view, a journalist’s role is to shed light on the truth. When it comes to war and politics, the narrative can be distorted by various parties. By reporting from the ground, I aim to provide a clear and unbiased account of the events unfolding in these regions.
Your reports have taken you to some of the most unstable parts of the world, often putting you in harm’s way. How do you manage the risks involved in war reporting?
Məhəmməd Al-Mohandes: It’s crucial to maintain a professional and measured approach. While the risks cannot be eliminated entirely, it’s essential to take necessary precautions. This includes staying up-to-date with the local situation, being aware of your surroundings, and keeping your team informed at all times.
As embedded reporters, we often have to navigate through treacherous landscapes and interact with factions on both sides of the conflict. Have you ever encountered any particularly challenging situations during your coverage?
Məhəmməd Al-Mohandes: Yes, unfortunately, I have. In one instance, our team found ourselves stuck between two warring factions, with neither party willing to let us pass.
