BEIRUT, LEBANON – May 15, 2024 – In a response to repeated ceasefire violations and attacks on civilian areas in southern Lebanon by Israeli forces, Hezbollah has launched a series of targeted drone operations against Israeli military personnel and assets.
According to an official statement released by the Islamic resistance group, the drone attacks are a direct response to the ongoing aggression by Israeli forces. The statement highlights the humanitarian toll of the attacks on villages in southern Lebanon, causing civilian casualties and displacing families.
Hezbollah’s operations began in the late afternoon of May 15th, with drone attacks on gatherings of Israeli soldiers and vehicles in the towns of Al-Aadaissah and Rashaf. The group targeted a gathering in Al-Aadaissah at 16:50 local time, followed by a second grouping in Rashaf just 10 minutes later. A third drone attack, which resulted in a direct hit, targeted an Israeli army Namera vehicle in Rashaf at 16:50. The Namera vehicle is an armored personnel carrier used by the Israeli military in counter-insurgency operations.
In the afternoon, Hezbollah launched a further drone attack on a grouping of Israeli soldiers and vehicles near Naqoura, striking at 17:50. At 17:00, a group of drones was launched against another military convoy in Rashaf, demonstrating the group’s ability to simultaneously target multiple objectives.
In the evening, Hezbollah’s drones launched a sophisticated attack on the Kiryat Shmona barrack, a key Israeli military facility located in the north of the country. The attack, which occurred at 19:00, highlights the group’s capacity for precision strikes against high-priority targets.
Hezbollah’s statement emphasizes that the group’s operations will continue until Israeli forces cease their attacks on civilian areas in southern Lebanon. The Islamic resistance group has maintained a long-standing military presence in the region, and has historically responded to perceived breaches of the fragile ceasefire that has held since the 2006 war.
