RIYADH, KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA – In the latest escalation of tensions in the region, a group believed to be backed by Iranian forces launched an attack on the Bahraini capital, Manama, on Tuesday evening. The attack, which saw a rocket being fired onto the city, has sparked widespread condemnation from regional leaders and international diplomats.
The attack marks the third this year on Bahrain, a small island nation situated in the Persian Gulf, and has left many concerned about the growing instability in the region. While authorities have not officially confirmed the source of the attack, intelligence sources suggest that the operation was carried out by a militia group known as the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), which has ties to the Iranian government.
Bahrain’s Ministry of Interior reported that the projectile, believed to be a Katyusha rocket, landed in the southern part of the city, causing no reported fatalities or major damage. However, the attack has sent shockwaves throughout the region, with many leaders quick to denounce the violence.
“Such cowardly acts of aggression will not be tolerated in our region,” said Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud. “We stand in solidarity with our brothers in Bahrain and will do everything in our power to support them in the face of such threats.”
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) also released a statement condemning the attack, with Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Anwar Gargash, stating that “such acts of terrorism will not undermine the region’s commitment to stability and security.”
Meanwhile, diplomats from European countries, including the UK and Germany, have also expressed their condemnation of the attack, with UK Minister for the Middle East and North Africa, James Cleverly, stating that “we strongly condemn this attack and call for immediate de-escalation in the region.”
As tensions continue to escalate, many are calling for urgent action to address the growing tensions between Iran and its Gulf neighbors. The attack serves as a stark reminder of the complexities and risks present in the region, where proxy conflicts and sectarian divisions have long been a source of instability.
In the midst of this growing crisis, diplomatic efforts are underway to promote dialogue and de-escalation. The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and other regional organizations are working with international partners to promote stability and security in the Middle East.
As the situation continues to unfold, one thing remains clear: the people of Bahrain and the wider region will not stand idly by in the face of such aggression.
