BEIRUT, LEBANON – Tensions between Israeli and Lebanese forces escalated dramatically on Tuesday, as Israeli military aircraft and artillery units launched a series of airstrikes and bombardments targeting multiple areas in southern Lebanon.
According to eyewitness accounts and local sources, Israeli airstrikes struck multiple locations across the region, including Dibbine, where the town was hit twice; Kfar Jouz; Wadi Barghoz, which sustained two airstrikes; Al-Mansouri; Al-Bisariyah; Shaqra; Choukine; Mayfadoun; Arabsalim; Blat in the Marjayoun district; Deir Qanoun al-Nahr; and Kfar Roummane.
In addition to the airstrikes, Israeli artillery units unleashed a barrage of shells on various targets in the region. Areas affected by the artillery bombardment include Kounine; Tibnin; Ayta al-Jabal, particularly the al-Zout area; Al-Ghandouriyah; Braachit; Khirbet Selm; Qabrikha; Qaqaiyat al-Jisr; Al-Mansouri; Majdal Zoun; Kfar Roummane; Haboush; Choukine; Mayfadoun; Harouf; and Zebdine.
Sources also reported a drone strike targeting Deir Qanoun al-Nahr.
The escalating situation led to the displacement of several families in the targeted areas, with many residents seeking shelter in neighboring towns or cities, such as Tyre and Sidon.
Local sources and eyewitnesses describe the airstrikes and bombardments as “the heaviest in weeks,” with many calling for calm and restraint. The attacks sparked widespread condemnation from Lebanese officials and citizens, who have long demanded that Israel respect Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Israeli military has made no official statement regarding the recent attacks, but its actions have heightened concerns over the potential for further escalation.
The international community has called for restraint and peace negotiations in the Middle East for many years, however, the situation remains volatile.
