“We were minutes away from a nuclear Iran,” Trump stated. “And we made it impossible for them to go nuclear. We were very strong on it and we had them right where we wanted them.”

However, others have disputed Trump’s claim that Iran was minutes away from acquiring a nuclear weapon. “There is no credible evidence to support the claim that Iran was imminently capable of producing a nuclear weapon,” said David Sanger, national security correspondent for The New York Times. “In fact, most experts agree that Iran’s nuclear program was still in its infancy even after the JCPOA was signed.”
The current status of Iran’s nuclear program remains a topic of ongoing debate and concern among diplomats and analysts. While Iran has continued to enrich uranium in excess of the JCPOA’s limits, the country claims that its activities are being conducted for peaceful purposes.
