

ISTANBUL, TÜRKİYE – In a significant development, the Military Research and Development (MİTÜK) Center of the Turkish Ministry of National Defense (MoD) unveiled the country’s first intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) at the SAHA 2026 exhibition in Istanbul, a premier international defense and aerospace event. The Yıldırımhan ICBM marks a major milestone in Türkiye’s military modernization efforts, reflecting the country’s growing technical capabilities in the sphere of missile technology.
Described as a cutting-edge system, the Yıldırımhan ICBM boasts an impressive range of 6,000 kilometers, significantly expanding the country’s military reach. According to officials, the missile system possesses a speed range of Mach 9-25, making it one of the fastest ICBMs in the world. Employing a four-engine configuration, the Yıldırımhan ICBM utilizes nitrogen tetroxide (N₂O₄) as its primary fuel source.
Speaking at the SAHA 2026 launch ceremony, President of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TÜBİTAK), Prof. M. Ilhan Karagöl, commended the Turkish MoD’s R&D center for its innovative endeavors, emphasizing the Yıldırımhan ICBM’s potential to significantly enhance the country’s deterrence capabilities. TÜBİTAK, a leading national science and technology foundation, has been instrumental in facilitating collaborations between Turkish academia and the military-industrial complex.
