A former member of President Trump’s security detail has been arrested and charged with a serious sex offense while on duty at Trump National Doral Miami. John Andrew Spillman, a U.S. Secret Service agent, was taken into custody last week after a report was made by a hotel guest who claimed that he had been indecently exposed to her in a Miami hotel room.
Spillman was part of the Secret Service’s perimeter security detail at Trump National Doral Miami in March 2019. According to the local report, which emerged on local FOX/ABC-affiliated media WSVN, the alleged incident occurred at the DoubleTree Grand hotel in Miami. The unnamed female victim claimed that Spillman followed her to the sixth floor of the hotel while indecently exposing himself, forcing her to flee to a nearby room for her safety.
The local report states that the incident led to the Secret Service conducting an internal investigation into Spillman’s behavior. It is unclear when the investigation began or what prompted authorities to take action, but local authorities confirmed that the Secret Service had contacted the Miami-Dade Police Department to report an incident involving one of its agents.
Spillman was subsequently arrested on March 16, 2023, and charged with indecent exposure. Court records show that he has also been charged with voyeurism and battery. No further details on his alleged crimes were released by authorities.
Secret Service spokesperson, Anthony Guglielmi, confirmed the arrest and stated that they were cooperating fully with local authorities to investigate the incident. Spillman was suspended by the Secret Service and is currently being held at the Miami-Dade County Jail on bail with bond set at $20,000.
The incident raises serious questions about Spillman’s conduct while on duty, particularly given his access to top-security facilities. The alleged crime is the latest in a series of scandals to rock the Secret Service in recent years. An investigation by the US Office of Personnel Management revealed that at least 10 Secret Service agents had been disciplined for misconduct in 2022.
The Secret Service has promised to cooperate fully with local authorities and stated that any misconduct by its agents will be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
