The United Arab Emirates (UAE) was briefly placed on high alert on Thursday after missile alerts sounded, prompting residents to seek shelter. The alerts were subsequently lifted just minutes later as the authorities declared an all-clear.
According to local reports, the cause of the alarm was believed to be an Iranian rocket attack on a ship passing through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, which connects the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman. The Strait is a critical shipping lane and a major chokepoint for global oil supplies.
While the Emirates’ defense authorities have not officially confirmed the reason behind the missile alerts, it is reported that an Iranian Revolutionary Guard Forces (IRGC) unit launched a rocket at a ship transiting through the strait on the Omani side of the waterway.
