DUBAI, United Arab Emirates – The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has accused Iran of launching a cruise missile attack on the country, with at least three of the projectiles reportedly intercepted by the Emirate’s defence forces.
According to reports from the UAE Ministry of Defence, the Iranian government launched four missiles targeting military installations within the UAE. However, UAE forces claim to have successfully intercepted three of the missiles, preventing any potential damage or casualties.
Iran’s involvement in the incident has yet to be officially confirmed by the Iranian government. However, the UAE’s allegations of an Iranian attack come amid heightened tensions between the two nations. The UAE has been a long-standing critic of Tehran’s actions in the region, condemning Iran’s alleged role in regional conflicts in Yemen, Lebanon, and Libya.
The UAE’s defence forces have stated that the intercepted missiles were identified as the type that Iran has been accused of using in previous attacks on regional targets. The UAE has previously accused Iran of launching missile attacks on its territory, including a 2017 incident in which three drones were intercepted en route to Dubai Airport.
Iranian missile technology has been a subject of concern for regional powers in recent years, with several countries in the Arab Gulf expressing fears about Tehran’s military capabilities. The UAE’s accusations against Iran are likely to exacerbate existing tensions between the two nations.
Regional diplomats have expressed concern about the implications of the alleged Iranian missile attack on UAE soil. Diplomats from various Middle Eastern countries have long been seeking a path to peace between the UAE and Iran, but have thus far been unsuccessful.
In response to the alleged Iranian attack, the UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a statement calling on regional powers to work together to prevent escalation and protect regional security. Iran has yet to comment on the incident or respond to UAE’s accusations.
This developing story will be updated as more information becomes available.
Note: The authenticity of reports of the missile attack, including the number and type of missiles involved, could not be independently verified at the time of writing.
