
Ukraine has made significant headway in countering the threat of Russian hypersonic missiles, according to recent statements from the Ukrainian military. In an interview, Alkhimyk, the commander of the “Night Watch” unit, revealed that Ukrainian Electronic Warfare (EW) teams have successfully jammed a staggering 58 out of 59 Kinzhals, high-priority targets, since summer 2025. The Kinzhals, armed with the 3M22 Zircon hypersonic missile, have been a key component of Russia’s military arsenal.
The Ukrainian EW teams have achieved this impressive feat utilizing a Lima station system, which can cover a vast 300 kilometers. To fully degrade the Russian CRPA (Command and Receiving Point Antenna) antenna system, which enables the Kinzhals’ guidance, an estimated 32 stations would be required. Each station is equipped to not only jam the incoming missiles but also conduct spoofing and cyberattacks.
While the effectiveness of Ukrainian EW in countering Kinzhals has been notable, similar success has been reported against Russian Shaheds, a precision-guided explosive drone, and Iskanders, a short-range surface-to-surface ballistic missile system. According to Alkhimyk, the Ukrainian EW efforts have degraded the accuracy of Iskander missiles from a 10-meter circular error probable (CEP) to a range of 100-1000 meters. This marked decline in accuracy has been attributed in part to international sanctions imposed on Russia.
However, scaling up the Ukrainian EW system to cover the entire country would require substantial investment. Alkhimyk estimates that a comprehensive coverage would necessitate approximately $1 billion in funding to counter ballistic missiles and an additional $1.8 billion to address the larger threat landscape.
