The United States Department of the Treasury announced a new round of sanctions targeting the global shipping and financial network of Iranian businessman Mohammad Hossein Shamkhani, allegedly a principal facilitator of Iran’s oil exports and sanctions evasion. According to US Treasury officials, these sanctions target key players across the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Hong Kong, the Marshall Islands, India, and other jurisdictions accused of facilitating Iranian oil exports and container shipping operations.
“The Shamkhani network serves as a critical conduit for Iran’s sanctions evasion activities,” a Treasury official noted. “This new wave of sanctions will continue to severely limit the network’s ability to facilitate the transport of Iranian oil and undermine the Iranian regime’s economic interests.”
