US Military Launches Retaliation Strikes Against Iranian Targets

The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has confirmed that it launched a series of strikes against Iranian military sites, including missile and drone storage facilities, as well as coastal radar installations, in response to a recent drone attack targeting a Singapore-flagged cargo ship. The strikes were carried out on [date], according to CENTCOM officials.

The attack on the M/V Ever Lovely occurred on June 25 as the vessel was exiting the Strait of Hormuz along the Omani coast. Iranian forces claimed responsibility for the drone strike, citing the ship’s alleged involvement in a “provocative” operation in the region. However, CENTCOM disputed this claim, labelling the attack a clear breach of a previously established ceasefire and a serious threat to freedom of navigation.

“We will not tolerate Iranian aggression in the form of such attacks, which undermine the region’s security and stability,” a CENTCOM spokesperson said in a statement. “Our mission remains to ensure the safety and security of all ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, and we will take all necessary measures to protect international shipping and uphold the rights of nations to transit the waterway freely.”

The retaliatory strikes were targeted at key Iranian military assets, including storage facilities for ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). According to CENTCOM, these sites were responsible for the June 25 drone attack on the M/V Ever Lovely. The coastal radar installations targeted were said to be critical components of Iran’s coastal defence system.

The strikes were carried out in coordination with coalition partners and were intended to degrade Iran’s ability to project military power in the region. CENTCOM officials stressed that the operation was a necessary measure to protect freedom of navigation and uphold the rules-based international order.

In a separate development, US forces are continuing to ensure safe-passage coordination for commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz. CENTCOM officials confirmed that all necessary measures are in place to secure the waterway and protect international shipping interests.

“While our focus remains on ensuring safe passage for all ships, we will remain vigilant and responsive to any Iranian action that threatens the security and stability of the region,” a CENTCOM spokesperson said.

The latest development in this ongoing crisis highlights the ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran, which have been exacerbated by a series of recent attacks and provocations. The international community is closely monitoring the situation, with a keen focus on preventing any further escalation that could have wider destabilizing consequences.
